Newly Engaged? 3 Tips To Help Jump Start Your Wedding Planning

If you’ve recently gotten engaged, congratulations!  It’s such an exciting time!  You’ve found that perfect special someone, magic is in the air and you’re going to be getting married!  It’s a time to be excited but it’s also a time when you’ll have to start making a lot of decisions.

Here are 3 important things to jump start your wedding planning:

Consider the Wedding Location and Vendor Availability Before Choosing Your Wedding Date

This is the most important decision in the wedding planning process.  You want to pick a wedding date that works for everyone but many factors can affect picking a good date.  Many people just look at a calendar and pick a date 6-12 months out and decide to go with that and then plan from there.  The problem is that when you start searching out hall venues, djs, photographers they may already be booked up for that particular date that you chose.  When picking your date you want to give yourself enough time to get things set up and give people enough time to pencil in your date on their calendars.

Set A Budget

You may want a low key, small wedding with only 50 people at a local banquet hall or a glamorous destination wedding in Hawaii with a 1 month honeymoon.  Most likely you’ll want something in between.  Maybe one or both of you have a larger family and you’ll be planning a 300+ attendee wedding.  After talking with your spouse, get your ideas down on paper about where you might want your wedding, approximate guest size, and what ideas you might want to have at our wedding.  Then do some research and come up with a realistic budget for your wedding that you and your fiance will be able to comfortably afford.

Choose Your Wedding Party

Once you have a general idea of how you’d like your wedding to play out, it’s a good time to choose who will be in your wedding party.  If you and your fiance have been together for awhile you may already have a good idea of who you’d like in your wedding.  Now is a good time to select those important people and ask them.  What’s great is that after you’ve put together your wedding party, they can help you with your wedding planning so you don’t have to do it alone.  It’s helpful if you assign different tasks to different friends/family involved in your wedding to free up more of your time and help you with the decision making process.
